As everyone knows, the Royal Wedding happened on Friday morning, and it was amazing. I thought I'd share some of my favorite parts and photos.

I thought Wills looked so handsome in his uniform, and the red just added to the luxurious feeling of the whole wedding. I don't care if he does have a receding hairline or a bald spot, I still find him incredibly handsome. And we all know Prince Harry is very good looking as well.

Pippa Middleton looked STUNNING in her dress as well. I thought it fit her beautifully. I thought it brought just the right amount of attention to her as well. Even though it was ivory, it was understated enough to not draw away any attention away from Kate.

THE DRESS. It was perfect. I can't even put into words how much I adored the dress. From the lace, to the detail on the skirt, to the train, it was all perfection. Kate truly looked like royalty.

What I think I loved most though, was how truly happy and in love the couple looked. William was constantly trying to make sure she was happy and comfortable. And she just kept looking at him with total admiration and love. I really think that they are meant for each other and are sure to last.

P.S - did anyone else find their two kisses totally swoon-worthy? I died.

herbalife update! i just went to a hom (herbalife opportunity meeting) last night at the corporate office in torrance and it was SO inspirational. i'm still grinning from ear to ear after meeting some powerful executives in the company. i met the intimidating john tartol, a board of directors member; but he saw through my quivering voice and limp hand and treated me as if i were his peer. rare, right? but that's just the business part of it; the products themselves are working amazing as well! i've already given M a pair of my shorts and NO. MORE. DEPRESSION. next on my agenda? a charity dinner in la next thursday. i feel like someone on the real housewives of beverly hills or whatever it's called. beat that, lisa vanderpump.

some pictures from my last trip to new york. lexi and i wandered inside several hotels (the waldorf, the plaza, the palace to name a few) to be on the prowl for potential husbands. kidding, but not really. this fur coat kept me cozy throughout my nights roaming around manhattan and spiced up my outfits at all the right times. vintage fur coat, if you were a man i'd totally marry you.

on a different note, i just started using herbalife and so far its been working. i'm gonna try and create a log of it in each of my posts to keep track of any improvements in my mood and also to answer any of your questions if you have any. it's been day 3 and i can already feel it kicking in! such a change from last semester. i was constantly fatigued, and when i did sleep, i still felt exhausted. quite annoying if you ask me. plus, i think i was borderline depressed. lovely. now i have a lot more energy, and i think it's boosted my confidence as well; but maybe i'm just imagining things. well i'm gonna stop here to avoid sounding like an infomercial.

my favorite christmas presents, by far:

meet chloe. she was my christmas present to myself. i love her so much and couldn't be more delighted to have her join me on my daily excursions, resting gently within my handbag. (and, yes, Y and C worry greatly about the fact that i think chloe is a person rather than just a wallet. C was with me when i purchased her and had to witness me strap her into my car on the way home.)

the shirt that Y made for me. it's beautiful and i am still utterly speechless when it comes to expressing both my gratitude for receiving the gift in the first place and my admiration of Y's talent. Y tries to shrug off how beautiful the shirt is, but her talent is pretty unmistakable.

i HATE photobooth pictures and am really embarrassed that i posted this picture, but i can't help but share with you all how beautiful the weather has been in california. it literally shifted from being gross, rainy, and gloomy to sunny and 75 degrees within two days. i've gone from wearing thick socks and sipping hot chocolate every night to wearing Y's tank top and sipping lemonade. i posted and did homework outside all day today and was as happy as a clam.

merry christmas! hope everyone is having a good winter break thus far. my time in japan is flying by so quickly- it's crazy. i still feel like i haven't had a chance to fit in everything i want to do, it's almost as stressful as school! i'm kidding. anyway, as we all know, it's now christmas in the u.s. as of a little over 3 hours ago (pacific standard time)... but it's christmas here in japan as well for a few more hours. it's hard to get the timing just right since there is such a slim timeframe in between japan's time zone and california's.

what you will need for an adventure: clothes that blend in with the scenery, camera to document, traveling companion, car with a full tank of gas (in case you get lost), map

grabbed the car keys and drove to palm springs for a spontaneous day trip with my dad to escape from the impending doom of finals that lie ahead. the highway that leads to palm springs is home to miles and miles of beautiful shadowed hills and abandoned caves; i was really tempted to jump out of the car into oncoming traffic and explore the area of what seemed to be uncharted territory. instead, i held back and sat patiently in the passenger's seat until i thought i was going to burst, where i impulsively ordered my dad to pull over.

if you're ever in the area, go to agua bar & grill. even though it's a hotel restaurant, they have the best french dip i've ever had. hands down.

i would love to hear where your favorite secret spot is.

On Saturday, November 27th, I ventured to New York City on a personal journey. You’d think it an oxymoron to “get away” from school stress and responsibility by going into one of the most populated cities in the world the day after Black Friday. While I admit giving into some of the many sales still going on (clearing out my bank account on Fifth Avenue), I went to the City to be inspired. Of course I found inspiration in the revolving doors that lead into the one and only Bergdorf Goodman and the pristine organization among the nine floors at Barneys New York, but that’s an entire other post (or two or three). Rather, I traveled through the Upper East Side to get inspired at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute. I had never heard of this institution until Kathy Horyn informed her readers of a recent exhibit hosted by the Institute entitled Balenciaga: Spanish Master. Commanding, no?

Conceived by Oscar de la Renta and curated by Hamish Bowles, Spanish Master took its visitors into an entire other world. A world that was created as Cristobal Balenciaga investigated into the history, religion and culture of his homeland Spain while designing in the fashion capital of Paris. The exhibit showcased the fusion of nationalism and contemporary design aesthetics of the late designer throughout his career.

As I studied every dress, bolero and cape, I couldn’t help but find myself in awe of how Balenciaga was able to take elements of a nation, and recreate them into designs that helped foster new silhouettes and a new idea of what makes a woman beautiful. Although taking inspiration from history, his pieces were still current; while using religious references, his designs were not exclusive nor unapproachable; and even though Spanish culture as a whole was the strongest motif in his body of work, the clothing was desired by women all over the world.

Balenciaga’s approach as a designer was a very careful one (Which is learned as he once told his apprentice Hubert de Givenchy, “Every ruffle must have a purpose”). However, it’s not a complicated one. While I can’t speak for the designer - as I obviously never met him - I can say that a pride in his heritage and a desire to create beauty were driving forces in his work. He took his background as a Spanish Catholic and applied it to his work as a fashion designer in Paris.

It’s as simple as that… but at the same time, it isn’t.

saturday night, two of my dearest friends and i headed out to l.a. to try a restaurant that we've had our eyes on for a while: bottega louie in l.a. before seeing harry potter. we'd heard fabulous reviews from various sources about the parisian-italian restaurant and it did not disappoint.

great food+great service+great vibes=a great time.

it's definitely our favorite new hang out and we'll be heading back sometime in the near future.

1 cardigan 4 ways

i recently purchased this black, lace cardigan at target. it was a steal at a mere $20. the sweater is great in that it's sheer and light weight and can be worn simply for aesthetic purposes, allowing me to not overheat when i trek the one-mile walk to and from my classes. to put it simply, it's the perfect addition to any socal- girl's wardrobe.

the first thing that came to mind when i laid eyes on this piece of clothing was the endless opportunities that the sweater would offer me: i could layer it over dresses, tuck it into skirts, dress it down with denim shorts, or dress it up with heels. the possibilities with this sweater are endless. i decided to document a few of these possibilities:

There are very few musical artists whom I consistently keep tabs on. But in this case, Brooke Fraser is someone I obsess over. "B" hails from New Zealand (she's incredibly tall and thin) but has spent much time in Australia and, while writing her latest album, in the US (the Coachella music festival provided her with much needed inspiration). Accompanying her natural beauty and amazing sense of style are vocals that seem to be fresh, comforting and familiar all at the same time.

Her latest album, titled "Flags", is a diverse assortment of alternative-pop songs that give words to a wide array of emotions experienced by many, if not all. Whether you're looking for a song to get stuck in your head while walking around town on a sunny day, or searching for something that'll get your mind thinking deeper than of what to wear tomorrow, Flags will become a classic, a reliable go-to for any day.

Flags features collaborations with other artists such as Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, Matt Hales of Aqualung and William Fitzsimmons, among others.

after a weekend of drowsy cosmic bowling (a warm bowling alley + old school r&b tunes = a sleepy group of friends), late night runs to ralph's (which consisted of picking up frozen green beans, puffy cheetos, nutella, and macaroni and cheese), and disastrous crepes the next morning , Y and L came up with the idea of wrapping up our weekends at the long beach flea market.

we only stayed for an hour or so, but a good time was had by all nonetheless. no purchases were made, but sometimes the best shopping trips are those that are simply spent observing the merchandise without having to worry about putting a dent in your bank account...

i have never been to new york, stayed in a penthouse suite on the upper west side, shopped at bergdorfs, eaten a cupcake from magnolia bakery, seen wicked, enjoyed milkshakes outside of the met, walked around soho, met two of the best dancers from sytycd in central park, enjoyed coffee at serendipity, nor have i ever done any of this with my best friend A. until this past week.

one of my dreams came true (thanks in whole part to my amazing dad) when i was sent to the concrete jungle. not only that, but my best friend A flew out from los angeles to experience this with me. dreams were definitely made.

let me just tell you how hard it is to not be a tourist and take pictures of everything in new york... it's hard.

i have a problem with getting obsessed with things...i suppose i was just born with an obsessive personality and a voice inside my head that is always telling me, "go hard or go home." i' m not particularly extravagant when it comes to the way i dress and act...though i sometimes wish that i was so that i could command the attention of so many people that i'm spontaneously appointed editor-in-chief of my school's yearbook or march down melrose wearing lingerie shorts, black tights, heels, false eyelashes, and a leopard trench coat like two people that i'm very fond of. my obsessiveness comes to the surface with things like studying (most normal people start studying for midterms the week/weekend before the tests are given. i enter the full-on panic-mode that most people adopt minutes before a test two weeks before midterms begin. every minute of those two weeks is spent studying when i'm not working or in class), eating (when i go to a restaurant i will either order a patty melt, fries, a milshake, and an icecream sundae or a bowl of granola yogurt and water), and my internet habits (when i like a blog i won't just visit it once a week...i'll visit it everyday. when i find something fascinating i'll spend hours on google researching it. you should have seen me when i was first found out about rachel zoe...i spent hours scourging the internet looking for every video clip, article, and picture dedicated to rz that had ever existed. i started ordering venti coffees from starbucks and carried them around like an accessory and suddenly developed a love for fur coats and oversized glasses. it's safe to assume that you all know what channel my tv is tuned into every tuesday at 10/9 c...it rhymes with gravo).

thus, i have decided to create a little something called "m's obsessions" in which i'll share my latest obsession with you all. my obsessions will vary, i'm sure, and will include everything from a specific person, to a food, or a clothing line.

last week, feathers and fur, my school's fashion magazine, had a gallery opening titled 'the walk-in closet'.
in this project we documented the wardrobes of nine stylish students. it was great to highlight the fashion lives of other students who don't necessarily know much about the fashion industry but know what looks good on them.

trekked over to hollywood with M to the music box to see their show. during the time we had to wait, we: admired the interior, went to the restaurant next door and ordered a bucket of fries and nachos, sat at the couches along the side, went to the bathroom where the door was hidden to make it look like it was part of the wall, and tried to decide what the hell the artwork above the curtains represented all before the show finally started. ronnie was cracking us up with his awkward, spastic, but equally adorable moves and of course alan stole the show. too bad we didn't see jane from sea of shoes there.

i prefer using film instead of digital because i am so in love with the way colors turn out- especially the browns and pinks. if only it wasn't such a hassle to get them developed -_-
i remember this day quite well actually; i randomly asked my dad if he wanted to take a walk around one of my favorite childhood parks so i could clear my head (mainly boy problems) but only ended up being able to stay for an hour before we had to head out to our weekly dinner reservations. i haven't been able to go get dinner with my dad for weeks now- what with work, busy with friends, etc- it makes me sad how easily i could forget about my dad when it only takes an hour to step away from my life to spend time with him. i wonder if he misses it as much as i do.
it took forever for my dad to find time to get these pictures developed that i almost forgot about them. but i'm glad that he chose to develop them around this time because i've probably looked through every roll of film at least twice a day to distract me from my anxiety and my all-too-stupid-bursts-of-loneliness

shoes: ralph lauren. these are the newest edition to my shoe "collection." i love the simplicity of them and the mary-jane style reminds me of my elementary school days. i think that they're quite reminiscent of stella mccartney's fall 2008 wedges, which i completely fell in love with after seeing them for the first time on the runway and even more so after seeing them on mk in elle circa 2008:

they have a very organic, simple, and eclectically classic feel to them. and i like that. as much as i would adore to own the stella's, i, a college student, don't have $1,1145 to spare, thus the ralph lauren's will be just fine.

Y, C, and I all got to hang out last friday. it was a magical night filled with picnics in gazebos, lounging on my big comfy couch reminiscing, and late night trips to our favorite sunset diner...all sprinkled with great conversation and plentiful laughter. we wrapped up the night by heading to Y and L's favorite look-out spot in laguna aboard L's sexy honda odyssey. it was the perfect night to celebrate C's return to school, a sad event that we all tried to mask with hope and excitement for the opportunities that lay ahead of C this school year.

just got back from watching mao's last dancer with the mom (one of the few times per month i get to spend quality time with her) and i'm literally still blown away after watching the movie. the ballerinas' figures made me sick to my stomach thinking about how beautiful they were, the dancing made me speechless- which made me want to start dancing again, almost started crying in about 5 scenes, and actually did cry for the last 15 minutes. definitely a must see, if that wasn't obvious already.

1. lake quinault lodge
2. hoh rainforest: disappointed that the hoh rainforest cost $15 for the entrance fee since it was practically the same as the quinault rainforest except for the fact that the hoh was a tourist trap. plus there was an extra 12 miles more to drive than we originally thought just to get to the parking lot.... sigh
3. la push: one of my favorite places i visited, well worth the drive up. i can't believe i was almost considering not going because we were on such a tight time crunch
4. la push: i loved the fact that the water and the sky were the same shade of gray
5. goat cheesecake, blackberry compote, melon sorbet
6. drove 30 minutes outside of portland to see the mulnomah falls but decided to head out since it was another tourist trap (as you can see i'm not a fan of mainstream things) and went to the neighboring fall instead which was a lot less crowded and a lot more serene
7. random creek
8. magpie: read some bad reviews about this vintage store saying that there was bad customer service. i highly disagree. they were very accomodating and very witty if i may add. bought an adorable pinot noir red and white button-up and found several other fantastic things which i was debating on buying but decided against.
9. saw these food carts across the street from magpie and wanted to try the experience but my dad chose this chinese restaurant instead. we basically had to scarf down our food due to the 1:30 time limit of our parking meter, plus we had to rush to the airport soon thereafter, which was stressful all in itself

it's good to be home.

3. port angeles wall mural: went to a thrift store where a strange (homeless?) woman outside complimented my dress and later my bag. already confused in the first place, she proceeded to ask me if i was from oregon since my rental car had a oregon license plate and that i shouldn't be living in the la area if i don't like the busy streets. i found myself confusedly thinking about our conversation until i returned back to the hotel. on top of that, i witnessed a girl having a seizure in the back room while i innocently sifted through some racks of clothes. at least i came out of the store with a $7 2-piece-pajama-set-turned-into-an-everyday-outfit.

day 1: spent an hour at the Norton Simon for a paper M had to write for an art class, only to find that she was required to analyze a Degas drawing instead of a painting. just our luck right? at least we were in a museum that both of us could never get tired of. next, we ate lunch down the road in old town pasadena at this quaint, but empty, cafe on the corner. and, of course, we had to stop at 21 choices for a cup of frozen yogurt, which is probably the only place i'll willingly order overpriced scoops of "fro-yo." our last stop was at lmu, where M worked on her final project for her art class in the animation room.
day 2: M and i biked to claire's, the lbma's cafe, and were pleased to see that they were open, because the last time we visited, the gates were locked. aside from the fact that i was calculating the chances of our bikes getting stolen and still dwelling on the fact that the bike path smelled like urine, i casually took a seat at the table next to the fountain and ordered a glass of cranberry juice for myself while M ordered an iced mocha. while we caught up on stories about our lives in the past week, our adorable waiter commented that he had seen us before, maybe we were regulars? sly pick-up line... probably not, but a girl can dream right?
